6th May 2010 Golden Week has come and gone and the ski and snowboard resorts in town are now officially closed after a good winter season.  It sure doesn't feel like winter anymore now with temperatures soaring into the 20's!  We will be bringing information and photos from Otari to this page soon.

27th April 2010 We have had variable weather conditions over the last week or so - after some very fine weather over the weekend, it is raining today.  It looks like things should improve for the large part of the coming "Golden Week" holidays though with fine weather currently forecast from Friday onwards...  it should be good weather for general tourism as well as for any last skiing and snowboarding for the season at Tsugaike Kogen.

19th April 2010 Since the last report we have had some more snowfall at times, and conditions remain good considering it is the second part of April now!  This week should be generally warmer.

6th April 2010 Only the top section of the Tsugaike Kogen ski and snowboard resort remains open in Otari now - but the resort plans to be operating right through until 5th May.

The days at the moment are generally starting off cold but warming up and we are seeing some fine weather this week and probably also into the coming weekend.

1st April 2010 It has been a good spring season so far with some frequent - and sometimes significant - snowfalls in the mountains.  Quiet on the slopes but good conditions for those getting out there still.... and Tsugaike hopes to be open until 5th May, so still lots of time to enjoy the snow yet.  This coming weekend marks the end of the ski and snowboard season at resort in Otari other than Tsugaike.

22nd March 2010 Snow!  Since the last report we have seen a few snowfalls with up to 30cm or so in some areas last night and the spring conditions out there on the resorts are currently very favorable - lots of people still having a lot of fun as winter stays with us that big longer!

12th March 2010 Since the last report we have seen a return to winter conditions and some decent snowfalls in the region giving the slopes a good new blanket of snow and good conditions once again.  Today will see fine and sunny weather once again with mixed conditions forecast for over the weekend.

4th March 2010 We have been experiencing these continued mild conditions the last week with more rain than snow unfortunately.  The good news is that from Saturday lower temperatures are forecast with snow over the weekend and into next week so it seems we will be back to enjoying winter-like conditions soon.

25th February 2010 Last week I mentioned fine weather forecast for this week and it has actually been a very mild week in the valley here and also many other regions of Japan.  This has meant warm temperatures and not much fresh snow, so almost spring like conditions.  Great for scenery and taking photos though!  Hopefully by next week temperatures will drop again and we will see more snowfall.

18th February 2010 More mixed weather this week and not a huge amount of snow to report, though it is generally keeping colder and lots of fun to be had.  Hopefully there will be some more snowfall before the weekend and it looks like more fine weather coming early in the week.

12th February 2010 Mixed weather and snow conditions this last week... after the snowfall last weekend it has been back to milder weather and even rain!  With snow overnight and more today, conditions will once again be improving in time for the weekend.

4th February 2010 We have had some snow over the week but not as much as the forecast told us to expect - though now we are looking at perhaps later on tomorrow (Friday) evening and into the weekend for some heavy snowfalls in the region so hopefully great conditions for the weekend.

28th January 2010 Variable weather conditions have continued over the last week or so and we are once experiencing some mild conditions and even rain at the moment.  The better news is that this will hopefully turn to snow at higher elevations soon and we can expect more snow into next week.

22nd January 2010 We have experienced a relatively mild spell of weather in the region this last week, but today the snow is falling once again.  Some more snow forecast but not heavy snow so it should be a fine weekend on the mountains...

15th January 2010 The excellent conditions continue with more heavy snow and mid-winter like conditions in the area.  Ski and snowboard resorts are now reporting over 3m of snow - this is the kind of winter we are used to!  If you are wanting to slide down the snow, conditions do not come much better than how they are now.  Enjoy!

6th January 2010 Since New Year we have seen a huge amount of snow fall in the region - and it is still snowing!  Take care if you are visiting the region, but expect some excellent snow conditions on the ski and snowboard resorts in the area.

1st January 2010 Happy New Year from a very very snowy Otari village and region.... currently heavy snow falling and excellent conditions on the slopes.

24th December In the last report we mentioned about winter arriving - well, it did so in style!  From not much snow to lots and lots of snow over the period of just a few days!  Ski and snowboard resorts in the area are now open as people enjoy good conditions on the slopes well before the New Year holidays.  All the very best to all our readers for the holiday period and we hope you will come and enjoy the snow in Otari soon!

18th December Finally winter has arrived!  The snow started yesterday and it is now snowing heavily in the region with more forecast for the weekend.  Ski resorts in the area are opening up and more lifts and runs should be available as more snow falls over the weekend and into next week.

11th December Not quite there yet!   The mountains have had further dustings, but we are still waiting for the snowfall to get things going.... the forecast in the coming week is looking promising so perhaps in the next update there will be good snow news!

4th December Winter isn't quite with us yet with more mixed weather over the week and rain since yesterday - but that has been snow higher up on the mountains.  More sprinklings on their way over the coming week but it seems we will have to wait a bit longer for considerable snowfalls.

27th November The mild weather persists in the region at the moment as the snowline slowly moves back up the mountains.  Winter is still just around the corner but those living in the area know how things can change quickly.  However the forecast for the week is for the mild weather to continue for a while with a chance of some snow sprinklings on the higher peaks.

19th November This last week has seen a mix of weather with some snow higher up and rain lower down.  We are now just before the start of the ski season and hopefully some resorts will be able to open up soon with some more snowfall in the region.

12th November More fine weather this week in the region as autumn holds on but winter approaches.  It won't be long now before the ski resorts in the region are operating with some hopeful to be open before the end of this month.   Hopefully we might see some snow in the next week or two to let that happen.

6th November It has been a week of contrasting seasons.... on Sunday and Monday we were treated to the first snow of the season down to village level.  The wintery weather caused a lot of excitement as people are all looking forward to the coming snow season.  Since then though we have seen a return to autumn-like weather with clear skies and warm temperatures.  The snow has all but gone at lower levels and the autumn conditions look set to continue for a while yet.

23rd October

There are many beautiful contrasting colours around Otari at the moment - the deep blues of the sky, the green and other autumnal vibrant colours on the mountains.  We have had some fine sunny days in the last week or so with many people in the area to enjoy the scenery.
